The Benefits of a Group Pilates Class
Have you ever walked into a gym and noticed that everyone is on their phones while they work out?
Guaranteed - if you walk into a gym, there will be someone on their phone in between sets, someone else on their phone while they exercise and another shooting their workout for Instagram story and then sitting back in a stretch position to edit.
I am the first to put my hand up and say that I have definitely been guilty of doing this! I have grand plans of how my workout will turn out and then I get completely distracted by my phone and boom! A whole hour has passed!
Do you think any of these workouts were effective? Absolutely not! I would leave the gym feeling uninspired and not deserving of a post workout protein smoothie!
On the flip side, when I attend a group pilates class, I am present. I turn up, put my phone away and focused on what the instructor tells me to do. It allows me too free up my mind to focus on getting the most out of my workout.
Come to think of it - It is probably the only time in my day when I spend a full hour away from my phone.
Now, I am well aware that there are many people out there who love to go to the gym, put their headphones in and switch off from the world! I get it.
I’m speaking directly to those of you, who like me, feel unsatisfied working out on your own in a 24/7 gym.
If you have ever thought about attending a group class instead, consider this;
A group class will:
• Force you to detach from your phone for 1 hour and connect with like-minded people
• Focus your attention on your workout
• Make you accountable to someone else
• Push you past your comfort zone and leave you with a better sense of accomplishment - post workout
• Help you to get the results you want!
We live in a world where it is less and less necessary to interact with one another. Rates of anxiety and depression are climbing. Human beings are becoming worse at communicating with each other and we are slowly losing the ability to FOCUS!
We spend so much of our day glued to our phone screens, disconnected from reality and oblivious to the world around us. This can’t be healthy, can it?
In today’s society, there is a lot to be said about being a part of something! So when it comes to exercise, a group class will not only improve your physical health, it will also have a positive impact on your mental health.
So if you are feeling unmotivated at the gym or left wondering why you’re not getting the results you are after, take my word for it - find an exercise that you LOVE and a group of like-minded people. You won’t look back!
